Governor Mao Leads Hunan Delegation to Visit Shanghai

Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and governor of Hunan Province, led a Hunan delegation to inspect Shanghai on February 19, 2025. The delegation visited some central, foreign-funded, and Hunan enterprises in Shanghai, and met with representatives from the China-Germany Friendship Association, German Chamber of Commerce, and various enterprises.Governor Mao asked to thoroughly implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speech delivered at a symposium on private enterprises, learning from Shanghai's advanced experience in promoting high-level reform and opening up on all fronts. Hunan should seek cooperation and attract investment based on its advantageous geographical location as a transition belt between the eastern coastal regions and the central and western regions, and a combination zone between the Yangtze River opening up economic belt and the coastal opening up economic belt. The province should take advantage of the opportunities presented by the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt to achieve significant progress and leapfrog development.Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, attended relevant activities.

  Governor Mao also had a discussion with Shi Mingde, president of the China-Germany Friendship Association and former Chinese ambassador to Germany; representatives of Siemens, Schaeffler, BASF, Bosch, and other German enterprises; and chief representatives of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce Shanghai. He pointed out that Germany is Hunan's largest investment and technology partner in Europe. In recent years, Hunan and Germany have seen an increase in mutual visits and exchanges, resulting in remarkable achievements in economic and trade collaboration, as well as rich and colorful people-to-people exchanges, thanks to the great efforts made by the China-Germany Friendship Association.

  There are now 33 German enterprises in Hunan, including seven of the Fortune Global 500 enterprises. Thirty-seven Hunan enterprises such as Zoomlion and Sany have entered German market. In 2024, Hunan's trade with Germany totaled 15 billion CNY. Governor Mao expected the China-Germany Friendship Association to give full play to its advantages of rich network of contacts, abundant resources, and extensive information channels, to help Hunan and Germany deepen industrial matchmaking, scientific and innovation cooperation, and people-to-people exchange. He looked forward to more high-quality and high-level pragmatic collaboration between German enterprises and Hunan in terms of industrial chain complementarity as well as digital and green transformation.

  Shi Mingde and representatives from the German Chamber of Commerce and entrepreneurs agreed that Hunan-Germany cooperation share sound foundation and strong industrial complementarity. German enterprises are full of confidence in the Hunan market. All parties will play an active role in promoting practical cooperation and strengthening people-to-people friendship, thereby contributing to the promotion of partnership between Hunan and Germany.
