Hello everyone, I’m Chu Chu from Malaysia. I’m excited to talk about China’s 24 Solar Terms. This Thursday, March 20th, is the Spring Equinox.

Two thousand years ago, during the Zhou Dynasty, people celebrated this day with various activities. The Emperor would offer sacrifices to the sun for blessings, while common folks gathered to fly giant kites. They would write their misfortunes on the kites, cut the strings, and let them soar away.

This year, the Spring Equinox coincides with the Spring She Day, Tradition says that standing an egg upright on this day can absorb the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. Plus, snapping a "no-sunset filter" selfie at noon; devouring toon shoots with tofu; and flying dragon-shaped kites to summon good luck.

Around the world, In Iran, they set up a Haft-Seen table for Nowruz; in Japan, people get a day off for tomb-sweeping; and in Uzbekistan, they mark the start of the new year.

Whether you’re watching cherry blossom or going out for a walk, Don’t forget to look up at the sky—the sun is sending a “spring boot-up notification”.
