The Xiangxi ethnic dance drama "Dance of 24 Solar Terms," which received the Tian Han Special Award at the 8th Hunan Art Festival, is about to embark on a nationwide tour. The first show will be staged at the Minnan Grand Theater in Xiamen, Fujian on March 29. Subsequently, the production will visit cities such as Shenzhen, Chengdu, Wenzhou, Yiwu, Hangzhou, Wuhan, and Shanghai, presenting audiences across the country with an immersive audio-visual feast that blends the beauty of Miao intangible cultural heritage with modern art.

The dance drama is directed by Li Shibo, a first-class director at the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater and winner of Best Director at the 14th Wenhua Award. The production was meticulously created over two years by the Xiangxi Wuling Mountain Center for Teaching and Learning of Ethnic Culture and Art and the Hunan Provincial Ethnic Song and Dance Ensemble Co., Ltd. The drama is jointly performed by the Hunan Provincial Ethnic Song and Dance Ensemble and the School of Music and Dance of Jishou University.Taking the 24 solar terms as the timeline, the dance drama centers around 33 intangible cultural heritage items. Through exquisite choreography, the show portrays the life, folk customs, and farm work of the Miao people from winter to autumn.

Over the course of the 100-minute performance, audiences will journey through the changing seasons, experiencing the Miao way of life and historical memories, as well as the inheritance and innovation of their intangible cultural heritage.To propel the dance drama onto a broader global stage, the Hunan Provincial Ethnic Song and Dance Ensemble officially joined the Silk Road International League of Theatres, which was initiated by the China Arts and Entertainment Group, in November 2023. With the league's support, the production will not only tour multiple cities in China, but will also actively launch an international tour in 2025, showcasing the unique charm of Chinese culture to audiences worldwide.
