The world's largest earth pressure balance (EPB) double shield hybrid tunnel boring machine, or TBM, rolled off the production line in Changsha on March 26. The TBM is called "Qiangji," which means "Strong Foundation". It was jointly developed by Zhejiang's Hangzhou Water Group, the China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation, and the China Railway 18th Bureau Group Corporation. With a diameter of 12.68 meters and a total weight of 3,500 tonnes, the TBM will be used in the construction of a drainage tunnel in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
