A video conference on the province's first-quarter industrial economic performance and the scheduling of commercial and open economy initiatives was held in Changsha. The meeting revealed that in the first two months of 2025, the province's total import and export volume reached 78.24 billion CNY, with exports growing by 10.2%, which was 6.8 percentage points higher than the national average.Open platforms have continued to empower growth. The Hunan Pilot Free Trade Zone released its third batch of 25 institutional innovation achievements, while promoting seven pilot reforms and 10 innovative model cases province-wide. From January to February, Hunan saw foreign trade and foreign investment rise by 12.4% and 31.6%, respectively, with 19 major projects newly introduced.

A remanufacturing and maintenance base for engineering machinery was inaugurated at the Changsha Area of the Hunan Free Trade Zone, attracting 11 enterprises to settle in. The Hunan-Hainan Advanced Manufacturing Industrial Park has secured 28 industrial projects with a total investment of 12.2 billion CNY.Open channels have achieved efficient coordination. In the first two months, the Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport service and the Huaihua-ASEAN freight train service operated 191 and 158 freight train trips, up 112.2% and 66.3%, respectively. The Yueyang Chenglingji Port recorded a 73% surge in foreign trade container throughput, while the Changsha airport handled 160,600 international passenger trips, a 20.4% increase.

The Hunan Provincial Department of Commerce emphasized it will make efforts to implement national policy measures aimed at promoting the steady growth of foreign trade, expedite the introduction of provincial supporting measures, and formulate the "Five-Year Action Plan for Enhancing Quality and Efficiency of Hunan's Foreign Trade." Key initiatives will be taken in the following aspects:

Launch provincial-level campaigns to improve the quality and efficiency of foreign trade in dominant industries;

Play the leading role of enterprises like Hunan International Trade Group;

Encourage cities and industrial parks to enhance comprehensive foreign trade services; and,Expand new business models such as market procurement, cross-border e-commerce, and intermediate goods trade.Hunan's trade with Africa totaled 8.073 billion CNY in the first two months, up 8.5%.

In preparation for the Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha this June, the province will release the "Measures for the Implementations of 'Ten Partnership Action Plans", exploring innovative models like investment-barter trade. Efforts will be made to launch the Service Fund for In-depth China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation and a logistics supply chain platform dedicated to African countries.
